Our Tenants: Right to Acquire
Sadeh Lok tenants may have the right to purchase their home at a discount under the Right to Acquire provisions introduced by the Housing Act 1996.
The following basic questions and answers will help to explain how the scheme operates:
How do I know if I qualify under the scheme?
- You must occupy self-contained rented accommodation.
- You must occupy under a secure or assured tenancy.
- You must have been a public sector tenant for at least two complete years.
How do I know if my home qualifies under the scheme?
- Your home must have been built using social housing grant.
- The social housing grant for your home must have been confirmed on or after 1 April 1997.
- Certain dwellings are exempt under the scheme including those designed for people with physical disability.
- Your home will not qualify if the loan debt is equal to or exceeds the current market value.
What price will I have to pay?
- Your home will be sold to you at the open market value less the approved discount.
- The value of your home will be assessed by an independent qualified valuation surveyor.
- The discount will be a fixed amount according to where the property is situated.
